Cheers.
It is almost too contrived (cliche) that my first entry about being 20-something in Washington D.C. is about a mixed drink that I invented on Saturday night. But, alas, in an attempt to get the blog rolling so to speak, this is what it has come to. And using words like “contrived,” “cliche” and “alas” and phrases like “so to speak.” And going out for drinks in Georgetown on a Saturday night. Maybe I am more typical than I thought. But I digress.
The truth of the matter is, I seem to be spinning my wheels in place — much to the chagrin of j3 – trying desparately [sic] to nail down not only my site’s focus, but also the comfort level guiding the content choices I make (what to say, share, post, and not?!).
So why blog? A few things up front…
I have been “trend watching” the online spaces of:
New media
Social media
Online brand mangement [sic]
… for at least three years now. In this time, I have been part voyuer, part studet, part leader, and part participant. Thats a lot of parts. To my credit, I have attend conferences, workshops, forums, and lunches; I have signed up for, used and participated in as many social media darlings as I have seen fit. What’s more, I read hundreds of blog posts a week, track my favorite sites through Google Reader and have a voracious, old-fashioned appetite for well-developed prose in print articles, too. Dozens a week. Chomp chomp.
On the more personal side, I work for a long running television program, I grew up out west in the mountains and then on a farm, and I am dating a self-professed “User Experience and Social Media Guru.”
Needless to say, I have a lot on my mind and plenty to say. It is just a matter of order and decorum. Bare with me. And stay tuned.
And, so, in an effort to choose my site’s content wisely and get this blog off the ground, I begin with a rather superficial post. About a drink. And a relatvely [sic] low-cal and tasty one at that.
I recommend it for anyone with a sweet tooth.
And for anyone who doesn’t know what to order when out on a Saturday night.
Or for anyone caught in the blog-paralysis in which I have found myself for over a year.
Here’s to it. Cheers.
